Rebecca Lawrence of Glacier National Park will discuss the perils of Whitebark pine and the challenges and successes of restoring them in the Park. Learn why whitebark pine is important, why they are dying and what are we doing to save them. White pine blister rust was introduced into British Columbia in the early 1900's and has spread nearly range-wide over the past century. While it has reduced the whitebark pine population in Glacier, we are learning about genetic resistance and how it can be utilized to restore the species.
