Description:
Still Life for Landscape Painters Workshop with Nicholas Oberling
Saturday and Sunday, February 4 - 5, 2017; 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Cost for 2-sessions: $240

The Hockaday invites artists age 15 and up to register for two of its adult workshops for the Winter 2017 season. "Still Life for Landscape Painters" will be presented at the Museum by renowned oil painter Nicholas Oberling on February 4 - 5, and the Hockaday's Director of Education Kathy Martin will offer "Egg Decorating" on March 11 & 18.

Nicholas Oberling's two-day workshop addresses the question of how an artist maintains their momentum from a season of plein air work when it's too cold to paint outdoors. Workshop attendees will paint three still lifes per day that are composed of elements that can build on and improve their painting of landscapes. Each lesson concentrates on developing composition and light effect, with an eye to drawing parallels with landscape composition along the way. Past masters of landscape painting will be cited throughout the course.

In time for the Easter season, Kathy Martin will be teaching egg decorating using beeswax and dyes. She will be providing step-by-step instruction for creating traditional Pysanky designs, as well as hints for creating personal designs. Students will learn how to use a kistka to draw melted wax designs, how to apply dyes, remove wax, and add finishing touches on two to three emptied eggs.

Workshop participants may visit hockadaymuseum.org for all of the details and download registration forms.
