Description:
GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT FIELD TRIP IN BIGFORK, SWAN RIVER
AND SURROUNDING AREA
Join Flathead Audubon on Sunday, February 14 in the annual Great Backyard
Bird Count. Treat your Valentines, young and adult, to a morning field trip in the
Bigfork and Swan River area. Birders will experience our local avian residents in
their winter world. Birders will learn about our winter songbirds, count winter
birds at feeders, and also explore other local areas for wintering residents, such
as, Trumpeter Swans and Pygmy Owls.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that engages bird watchers of
all ages in counting birds to create real-time snapshots of where birds are. It is
led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society.
Meet at 10 a.m. at the east end of the Swan River School main parking area, off
MT Highway 83, near Bigfork. Birders will return about 1:30 p.m. Dress for the
weather and bring binoculars and/or spotting scopes. To sign up, email trip
leader Kathy Ross at mtkat67@gmail.com or call (406) 837-3837. Birders of all
ages, especially families with children, are welcome, free of charge.
The Flathead Audubon Society is a local chapter of the National Audubon Society. Our mission is to:
*work with diverse groups and agencies to achieve sound decisions on natural resource issues;
While our efforts focus on northwest Montana, we believe in the protection of the earth and all its inhabitants.
*conserve birds, wildlife habitat and ecosystem diversity;
*promote awareness and appreciation of the natural world through education and advocacy;
*provide community services, such as, school programs, work projects and field trips.
