Paper Marbling Workshop
1:00 PM
Hockaday Museum of Art
Description:
The Hockaday Museum of Art announces a Paper Marbling Workshop with Dr. Erin Tapley on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The workshop complements the artist's Subarashi exhibit of two-dimensional hydroprinted, or marbled paper, works on display at the Museum through April 30. The $40 workshop is scoped for artists with beginner to intermediate abilities and will feature basic marbling techniques that segue into more complex layering and resist methods of making designs. The workshop cost includes all necessary materials for each participant.

Hydroprinting, sometimes known as paper marbling, is done on a slippery surface, usually thickened water, and requires an understanding of chemistry and physics. Its materials, which include hand-held tools, starch, alkaline-based pigment, oily media and human movement, all may be manipulated to produce different effects, each unique.

Tapley is the professor of art education at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, and has an MFA in printmaking from the University of Alabama. She has traveled to five continents and sixteen countries to research various visual art interests, increasing her expertise with traditional printmaking. She's completed over 45 murals and 25 large-scale installations in galleries/museums nationwide. The Hockaday is proud to welcome her to Montana to share her experiences and techniques with local interested artists and patrons March 3 through March 5, 2016.

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in the cultural district of downtown Kalispell at 302 Second Ave East. It is housed in a 1904 Carnegie Library building that appears on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum is a private nonprofit organization, open year-round, Tues-Sat from 10am-5pm. The mission of the Hockaday is to enrich the cultural life of our community and region, and preserve the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park.
