Senior Tour & Tea Days Description:
On Thursday, May 12, the Hockaday Museum of Art invites visitors age 60 to enjoy free admission to the Museum for Senior Tour Tea Day. Guests may enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and one of the Museum's docents will greet guests at the front desk area for an educational tour that begins at 10:30 am. The Hockaday is pleased to present visitors with two exhibitions that are new since the previous Senior Tour & Tea Day.

Dwayne Wilcox's Above the Fruited Plain is an exhibition of Native ledger drawings that are compelling, multi-layered, and beautifully executed. Each humorous work begins with a story that draws the viewer in, usually by way of a cultural reference such as a powwow, a biographical reference, or a historical reference. Although Wilcox's ledger art is immediately laugh-out-loud amusing in the way it pokes fun at white and native cultures, the viewer will find many layers of meaning beneath the surface of the cleverly presented stories. Wilcox has taken the traditional American Indian art form of ledger drawing and firmly placed it in the contemporary world.

Native Sons of the American West is an exhibit that showcases Paul Surber's oil and acrylic representations of Western Plains Indian Tribes in the 1800s and early 1900s. Surber represents Native American culture and authentic tribal wear with contemporary aesthetics. Guests of all ages will visually relate to the different tribes and their customs, expressed with colors and designs created with feathers, trade, beads, and different animal furs and bones.

Four fully restored murals from the lodge in East Glacier remain on display in the Museum. The Crown of the Continent Glacier National Park Gallery is an ongoing display of works from the Museum's permanent collection.
