Kalispell Compline Choir Presents "Nightcap for the Soul"
9:00 PM
Christ Church Episcopal
Description:
Perhaps in response to the ever-increasing pace of modern life, recent years have brought new interest in ancient forms of worship and meditation. One such tradition is that of evening Compline, which in the past decades has become an enduring fixture in Seattle, Minneapolis, and other communities around the country.

Here in the Valley, an observation of the tradition will begin this fall presented by the Kalispell Compline Choir. Begun around the 5th or 6th century, this service of chant, readings and musical offerings ends the day of devotions in monasteries and churches around the world. Those who attend can expect, as described by the Seattle Compline Choir, "to sit in the quiet and dimly lit nave, to listen to words and music, and to be renewed and comforted by this ancient liturgical office."

Although anchored in centuries of tradition, the Flathead program is non-denominational and welcomes guests from every faith tradition -- or none at all. Participants are invited to simply receive what they hear as a gift. Through historical plainsong chant, meditative readings and Medieval and Renaissance
a cappella choral music sung by a small group of area musicians, it is intended to be a time of calm relaxing: a "nightcap for the soul."

Those who attend will be welcomed into a darkened, quiet, candle-lit space. Participants are invited get comfortable, and receive the blessing of this ancient sacred tradition.

"Nightcap for the Soul" will occur each second Sunday of the month, September through May at 9:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 215 3rd Ave. East, Kalispell.
