Birds of Prey and Libby Dam Water Operations
10:00 AM
Libby Dam Visitor Center
Description:
Libby Dam will host the 6th annual Birds of Prey event on May 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. followed by a presentation on annual water operations for the Lake Koocanusa reservoir at 2 p.m.

New this year, visitors will hear the story of Beauty the bald eagle - nursed back to health by licensed wildlife rehabilitator Janie Veltkamp of Birds of Prey Northwest after being found with half her real beak missing. After being fitted with the prosthetic, Beauty is now able to feed and drink by herself, and her own beak is slowly regenerating! Visitors will be able to:
View digitally printed prosthetic beaks - created by a dentist and an engineer for wildlife!
Observe live hawks, owls and eagles and talk with wildlife rehabilitators.
Birds on perches may be viewed anytime between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Short talks will be given about specific birds at 30 minute intervals.

There will be other presentations inside and outside of the visitor center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
This family-friendly event has expanded to include informational booths and activities:
Bear Aware! Bear safety with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.
Information on Boating Safety and Invasive Species Boat Inspections.
Make an Ornament for the National Christmas Tree with Kootenai National Forest Service!
Lincoln County Conservation District with information on best practices for landowners.

Curious about why the lake level is so low behind the dam? Those wanting to know more about projected water levels for Lake Koocanusa this summer are invited to stay for the Annual Water Operations meeting to be held at 2 p.m. in the Visitor Center presented by Greg Hoffman.

Visitors are invited to bring a picnic and binoculars and stay the day while watching for Eagles, Osprey and other Wildlife above and around the dam!

There is no charge for this event and no reservations are necessary.
