Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) presents "The Story Behind the Landscape: the Geology of the Flathead Valley" at Lone Pine State Park on Saturday, May 30 from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

Are you interested in learning more about the geology of western Montana? Join us for this informative workshop lead by guest instructor, Lex Blood. The workshop will begin with an informal presentation at the visitor center then proceed to the park's scenic overlook where participants will enjoy a guided view of our local geology.

This workshop is a great opportunity for weekend rock hounds and hikers who want to learn more about the landscape they rove. It is also a useful for teachers interested in local knowledge to share with their students. The workshop is open to adults 16 years and older. Cost a $10 per person and pre-registration is required.

Lone Pine State Park is located 5 miles southwest of Kalispell and offers one of the most vivid views of the valley, 7.5 miles of trails, and a beautiful interpretive center that provides information on living in a wildlife urban interface. Additional amenities include a picnic shelter and a community room, which are both available to rent, as well as a volleyball court, horseshoe pit, and an archery range. Furthermore, Lone Pine offers a fantastic variety of educational and interpretive programs.
