 "Celebrating 100 Years of Fashion 1868 - 1968" Description:
The Conrad Mansion Museum presents a special curator-led tour, "Celebrating 100 Years of Fashion 1868 - 1968" on Friday, July 10, 2015. If you have an interest in fashion, this tour is for you!

The stunning clothing exhibit illustrates a century of changing fashion. Garments displayed along with silhouettes are linked to the history of the Charles E. Conrad family in Montana. Conrad, a young Civil War veteran, arrived in the Montana Territory in 1868 and moved to Kalispell in 1891. His family occupied the Conrad Mansion until 1968.

The exhibit consists of 21 mannequins showing changes in the shape of clothing worn by men, women and children. The earliest piece in the collection is a late 1860s bodice and drape worn with a wide floor length skirt over hoop petticoats. In contrast is a 1960s A-line dress worn above the knee, the latest piece on display.

In addition to describing each piece in the collection, Volunteer Clothing Curator Teresa Knutson explains how clothing was obtained before the 1960s department store era, how women's under-garments like the bustle, corset and hooped skirt were worn to achieve a desired shape and other interesting tidbits about "being fashionable."

Doors open at 6:00 p.m., light refreshments will be served before the tour begins at 6:30 pm. A 12-page booklet filled with professional photos of the collection taken by Karen Weyer Photography is included in the $30 ticket price.

Reservations are required. Call 755-2166.
Evening group tours for organizations, clubs or other groups can be arranged by appointment.

The mission of the Conrad Mansion Museum is to preserve and exhibit the 1895 Charles Conrad Family Estate through public tours, educational programs and community events. The historic Conrad Mansion Museum, located on Woodland Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets East, is an outstanding example of luxurious pioneer living and period architecture in the Pacific Northwest. The 26-room mansion, donated to the city of Kalispell in 1974, by his youngest daughter, Alicia Conrad Campbell, was designed by noted Spokane architect Kirtland Cutter.
