Senior Tour & Tea Day
10:30 AM
Hockaday Museum of Art
Description:
On Thursday, August 13, the Hockaday Museum of Art invites visitors age 60 to enjoy free admission to the Museum for Senior Tour & Tea Day. Guests may enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and one of the Museum's trained volunteer docents will greet guests at the front desk area for an educational tour that begins at 10:30 AM.

The national traveling show Piecing Together a Changing Planet: Climate Change in America's National Parks is a juried display of 26 mixed media art quilts created by 22 Florida artists that debuted at Biscayne National Park's Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery on December 5, 2014. Piecing Together a Changing Planet will only be shown around the United States at eight carefully chosen locations and highlights a few of the many ways that America's 401 National Parks are being impacted by climate change, water pollution, air pollution and other human-caused phenomena. The artworks were all created by members of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), a 3000-member national organization dedicated to promoting the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications. Far from utilitarian quilts traditionally used as bed coverings, art quilts focus on aspects not only of stitching and piecing, but also of layering, "thread-painting"and graphic design. The resultant pieces are often literally and figuratively three-dimensional.

The Hockaday begins its 14th year of exhibitions featuring artist members' works with the 2015 Summer Members' Salon. Hockaday members who are artists, either by vocation or by avocation, submit one piece of their recent artwork in the media of their choice. Diversity is assured with a wide variety of media that comprises glass, sculpture, pottery, textile, photography, jewelry, as well as painting using oil, watercolor, acrylic, and dye on silk. Many pieces will be offered for sale at fixed prices with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting the Hockaday's mission "to enrich the cultural life of our community and region, and preserve the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park." Visitors to the museum may participate in the People's Choice Awards by voting for their favorite piece.

Four fully restored Glacier National Park murals remain on display in the Museum. The Crown of the Continent Glacier National Park Gallery is an ongoing display of works from the Museum's permanent collection.

Senior Tour & Tea Day is sponsored by The Daily Inter Lake, Medical Arts Pharmacy, Sykes Pharmacy and KGEZ Radio in Kalispell.
