FVCC Art Department Hosts Reception & Show for Salish & Kootenai Artist Corky Clairmont

Flathead Valley Community College's Art Department will host a reception featuring works by Native American artist Corky Clairmont on September 1. Free and open to the public, the reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the gallery on the lower level of the Arts and Technology Building on campus. Light refreshments will be served.

Clairmont is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and is credited with developing the Fine Arts Department at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. Clairmont's art explores situations and issues that affect tribal people, such as sovereignty and colonization. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in China, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, France and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the recipient of the Eiteljorg Fellowship Award, the 2008 Montana Governor's Award for Visual Arts and awards from the Ford Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He currently serves on the state board of the Montana Arts Council.

A selection of Clairmont's work will be on display in the Arts and Technology Building from September 1 to October 6. For more information, contact FVCC Assistant Professor of Ceramics David Regan at 756-3993.
