Description:
Harmony: The Language of Color in Figure and Atmosphere with Rachel Warner
October 20 - 23, 2016
Adult painting workshop with Rachel focusing on the use of color in creating harmony in paintings with figures and landscapes. Cost: $445

The Hockaday Museum of Art announces the Fall-Winter 2016 workshops for adults that include guest instructors Ron Ukrainetz, Rachel Warner, and Julie Wulf. Executive Director Tracy Johnson says "the Hockaday is an ideal place for experienced and novice artists alike to learn a new art technique from their artist colleagues."

Great Falls artist Ron Ukrainetz offers "Creative Color in Impressionism" and delivers a unique class that throws out the strict use of the color wheel in painting. Instead, he presents using color temperature to create vibrant and exciting works. All levels of ability are encouraged to break from the traditional and learn the basics of analogous color harmony. Students will be painting at the Hockaday and a plein air location on October 8 and 9.

"Harmony: The Language of Color in Figure and Atmosphere" will be offered by Columbia Falls painter Rachel Warner on October 20 - 23 at her studio. This oil painting workshop focuses on the use of color in creating harmony in paintings with figures and landscapes. Two days will be spent covering academic drawing and the figure using a live model. If weather permits, landscape and atmosphere will be the focus of an outdoor painting session on the third day, and the workshop wraps after working from multiple sources in the studio.

Lakeside artist Julie Wulf brings her "Silk Painting" workshop back to the Hockaday on Saturday, November 19. Using silk as the canvas and fabric dyes as the paint to create ready to frame art, students will be guided through the process of stretching fabric, applying resist, controlling dye, mixing colors, and creating special effects. Tools and materials are included in the cost of the workshop.

Registration forms, details, and costs for individual workshops are available on the Hockaday's website, by calling (406) 755-5268, or visiting the Museum.

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in the cultural district of downtown Kalispell at 302 Second Ave East. It is housed in a 1904 Carnegie Library building that appears on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum is a private nonprofit organization, open year-round, Tues-Sat from 10am-5pm. The mission of the Hockaday is to enrich the cultural life of our community and region, and preserve the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park.
