Description:
FVCC Presents All About Glacier Lecture Series

Flathead Valley Community College will present a free "All About Glacier" lecture series for the community. All lectures will take place at 7 p.m. in the Arts and Technology Building large community meeting room on the college's Kalispell campus.

The series will open October 29 with John Fraley's presentation, "Two Women in Glacier National Park History: Adventures and Legacy of the Bootleg Lady of Glacier Park and the Cattle Queen of Montana." Fraley will share the fascinating stories of two prominent Glacier National Park women, Josephine Doody, known as the Bootleg Lady of Glacier Park, and Libby Smith Collins, known as the Cattle Queen of Montana. Through an audio/visual program, guests will enjoy learning about these two legacies featured in Fraley's 2008 book, "Wild River Pioneers."

The series will continue November 5 with "What They Called It: The Story Behind the Names Along Going-to-the-Sun Road" by Blake Passmore. In this presentation, the author of the "Climb Glacier National Park" guidebook series will unveil the history behind how the mountains and other landmarks of Glacier National Park were named.

Concluding the series will be Jake Bramante's presentation, "Hike 734: Every Mile of Glacier's Trails, In One Incredible Summer" November 12. Bramante will share his personal story of how he became the first person in history to hike all 734 miles of trails in Glacier National Park in one year. Audience members will relive his journey through photos, high-definition videos and rich storytelling about his encounters with unseasonably
high snowpack, injury, panoramic vistas, waterfalls, grizzly bears, birds, flowers, fighting bull moose and more.
