The Nurturing Center Presents Healthy Discipline A series of six Child Development Classes to help parents establish Positive, Effective and Healthy Discipline Practices UNDERSTANDING THE ESSENTIAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN * How young children think and learn * The things all children need * Don’t forget the essential needs of parents SETTING UP FOR SUCCESS * How well-planned environments prevent problems * Predictability and routines * Rituals IDENTIFYING AND REFLECTING VALUES * Identifying your family’s value system * Rules that reflect health, safety and respect * Involving children in making family rules TEACHING DISCIPLINE * Using conflict as a teaching opportunity * Building our child’s problem solving “toolbox” * Healthy models of behavior for your child EVERY CHILD IS UNIQUE * Understanding temperament * Shaping our interactions to our child’s strengths * Individualized strategies for the unique learner RESPONDING TO PROBLEMS * The difference between discipline and punishment * Understanding and interpreting behavior * The importance of consistency * Guiding principles: safety, dignity and respect Tuesday Evenings 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at The Nurturing Center The next session begins on Tuesday, March 25th Series cost is $30 per individual or $45 per couple For more information, or to pre-register, call The Nurturing Center at 756-1414 or info@nurturingcenter.org
