Description:
The Folks Next Door: Folk Art In Montana from June 6 –July 5, 2008, will feature ten folk artists working in mixed media, wood, clay, acrylic, metal , fiber and leather. Some of the featured artists are.
Tim Carlburg is from Kalispell. A self taught potter, Tim has a passion for early American stoneware vessels and forms. Tim strives not to recreate but to build upon time tested simple forms and shapes in modern works.
Kelly Moncur-Hatton is also a self taught artist who enjoys experimenting with different media, Her sculpture subjects are very diverse, colorful and whimsical. Kelly describes her work as eclectic and fun.
Donald Lewis was born in Fairview, Montana and enjoyed rural life where his father was the town blacksmith. Don owned a small engine repair shop where is his spare time he began working in wood. His work may be seen through- out the valley, featuring spiral staircases & furniture.
Shelle Lindholm’s rustic images are created by fusing painting skills developed though experimentation, a lifelong interest in wildlife and diverse mix of historical art influences. Sometimes compared to ancient cave paintings, Lindholm’s paintings begin in abstraction.
“ Something wonderful happens out of the alchemy of mixing colors, and idea is born” says Shelle.
Debi Strong’s work incorporates words and messages that she hopes will aid in creating a world culture of peace. Her brightly colored mixed media pieces are intended to make you think.
Ken Tilzey is an amateur artists whose work with found driftwood highlights the nature in the area. These unique sculptural pieces are whimsical and substantial.
The exhibition reception will be held on June 6th from 5:30-7:30. Everyone is welcome and light fare will be served.
