Paddlefest
10:00 AM Wayfarer's State Park
Description:
Dubside, a sea kayaking guru
from the west coast, will be coming to the Flathead Valley for the
annual Paddlefest event held at Wayfarer's State Park near Bigfork.
This annual event will take place on Saturday & Sunday, May 17
& 18 from 10 AM to 5 PM both days. Dubside, along with Glacier Sea
Kayaking! instructors, will be conducting rolling demonstrations,
rolling lessons (lake and pool), and illustrating Greenland ropes
gymnastics tricks. Have you ever seen anyone roll with incense in one
hand and a brick in the other? - successfully? - with the incense still
lit after the roll? Come see if Dubside can do it successfully in
Flathead Lake's chilly waters in mid-May!
On
Saturday evening (May 17), Dubside and Glacier Sea Kayaking! will
present a slide show at Clementine's, very near to Wayfarer's State
Park in Bigfork. The evening's event begins at 6:30 PM. Dinner and
presentation reservations for this evening can be made by email ( bobbie@glacierseakayak.com) or phone (862-9010). Registration for rolling instructions should also be made well in advance.
The
annual Paddlefest is a great time for beginning or experienced sea
kayakers to come "get their feet wet" by paddling a variety of sea
kayaks or receiving instruction on kayaking topics offered throughout
the weekend. The Paddlefest was started 16 years ago by Glacier Sea
Kayaking and continues to be a great paddling event that draws hundreds
of paddlers or wanna-be paddlers to the shores of Flathead Lake.
Glacier
Sea Kayaking! conducts many classes and excursions internationally as
well as in Montana's beautiful backyard. They have recently returned
from a tour of the Bay Islands in Honduras. Upcoming excursions include
a paddle down the Upper Missouri River with Montana's favorite singers
and songwriters: Rob Quist and Jack Gladstone. The White Cliffs area of
the Missouri River are a spectacular backdrop for these paddling
troubadours. This trip takes place June 8 to June 12, 2008.
In
July, Glacier Sea Kayaking! will be pulled into a world of towering
tidewater glaciers, drifting blue crystal icebergs and remote
wilderness camping along some of the most pristine coastline in the
world. A virtual "sea-fari" of wildlife is found in Alaska's Prince
William Sound consisting of whales, golden eagles, dolphins, sea
otters, seals and sea lions. The Sound is a place for observation,
exploration, discovery, binocular relaxation, salmon and halibut
fishing, and dining on gourmet fare. Dates of this paddling adventure
are July 12 to 19, 2008.
