Nature & Spirit: Frank Tetrault
12:00 PM Hockaday Museum of Art
Description:
NATURE & SPIRIT: FRANK TETRAULT
May 22 - June 29
Artist Frank Tetrault is inspired by the wonders of the spiritual realm and the natural world. Tetrault visited national wood carving schools in Germany and Switzerland to learn fundamental concepts of sculpture from the masters; and later worked with Bavarian master carver, Ludwig Klieninger. In the years that followed, Tetrault carved his own masterworks – animals including birds and a 4-foot tall, standing grizzly bear – and biblical figures. He spent 32 months sculpting exquisite relief carvings of the Twelve Apostles; the carvings were later commissioned as bronze works for the Methodist Hospital System. Tetrault prefers to work with linden wood, sculpting each piece first in clay. This gives him an opportunity to make changes, since with wood, “You cut the piece of wood away and it is gone.”
