The 11th Hour
7:00 PM Clementine's
Description:
This month’s Olduvai presentation will be a screening of the 2007 documentary film on climate change, The 11th Hour. Conceived, produced, and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, this film does an admirable job of presenting our current global environmental crisis through the passionate testimonies of a long list of activists and luminaries. Included in this quite stunning list are Thom Hartmann, Paul Hawken, David Suzuki, David Orr, Richard Heinberg, Stephen Hawking, Wes Jackson, Bill McKibben, Joseph Tainter, Jerry Mander, Lester Brown, and many more. The film leads us beyond yet another immersion into the realization of our predicament and into a surprisingly thoughtful discussion of potential solutions. Unlike Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, DiCaprio does not pretend that we can turn our civilization around by changing a few light bulbs and driving Prius cars. While improved technology is included in the toolbox of change, this film aims directly at human consciousness as our real hope.
No admission charge, but we appreciate donations to cover rental of Clementine's for the evening. Coffee and tea provided free.
