Business Hazardous Waste & Electronic Waste Recycling Event
12:00 PM Flathead County Landfill
Description:
Business Hazardous Waste & Electronic Waste Recycling Event Sixth Annual Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Event offers county businesses an easy, legally compliant and cost effective way to dispose of hazardous wastes. Friday, May 30th at the Flathead County Landfill is the sixth annual Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Event. Many Flathead businesses generate on a regular basis on a small scale. Imagine the potential impacts of dumping a 60-gallon drum of toxic chemicals every day of the year into a big hole, such as the Flathead County Landfill. That is the estimated quantity of hazardous waste dumped each day. It is projected that of the 24,000 gallons of hazardous waste that Flathead homeowners throw away annually, only 27% is being diverted to the Hazardous Waste Collection Center at the County landfill. Add in hundreds of small businesses around the valley and the problem multiplies. Look for warning words on the label to identify hazardous wastes including: Danger, Poison, Caution, Flammable, Caustic, or Hazardous. In addition, for the first time we are offering electronic waste recycling for businesses only at the May 30th event. Typical disposal costs for business-generated hazardous waste are greatly reduced by taking advantage of reduced group fees for small businesses at the annual Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Event. The event will be held at the Flathead County Landfill on Hwy. 93, midway between Kalispell and Whitefish. To pre-register call VEOLIA Environmental Services at 877-484-0129 x 102 or 877-484-0129 x 100, by May 28, 2008. For more information or to request a pre-registration packet, call the Waste Not Project at 756-8993. For homeowners, renters, and individuals you can take your household hazardous waste (not electronic waste) to the landfill every third Saturday of the month. This collection is free and accepts products including leftover oil-based paints, pesticides or herbicides, automotive products and cleaners, and poisons. Call the Flathead County Landfill at 758-5910 for details and to pre-register. Residents should watch each spring for a county- wide Electronic Waste Collection day. This year it was held May 3rd.
