Sukkot Harvest Festival Celebration
6:00 PM Glacier Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
Description:
Each year when the trees turn colors and the temperature cools, we know it is time for the harvest festival of Sukkot. Time to decorate an open booth in our garden with corn stalks, leaves and handmade decorations where we share a meal and a ceremony of gratitude for the abundance we all enjoy.
Bet Harim Jewish Community of the Flathead Valley invites members of the community to share this celebration on Friday, October 17 at 6 pm at the Glacier Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 1515 Trumble Creek Rd. in Kalispell. We will begin with a potluck supper and gather outside, weather permitting, at the sukkah for our evening service. Those interested in helping to trim the sukkah are asked to bring decorations and meet at the Glacier Fellowship Hall at 4 pm on Friday, October 17 prior to dinner and services.
"The Biblical harvest celebraton of Sukkot formed the basis for our secular holiday of Thanksgiving here in the United States. It is a time to express gratitude for the all we have to be thankful for and for the beauty of Montana," said Rabbi Allen Secher. "It is a wonderful holiday for children to participate in the richness of our surroundings and the fun of decorating the outdoor sukkah."
