Snowshoe to Stanton Lake
9:30 AM
Stanton Lake, Flathead National Forest
Snowshoe hike to Stanton Lake hosted by Montana Wilderness Association. Learn about winter ecology while snowshoeing to Stanton Lake in the Great Bear Wilderness. This outing is geared for novice snowshoers and families with children. We’ll take our time climbing – about 300 feet– to reach the Great Bear Wilderness boundary. Along the way we’ll stop and look for tracks and other wildlife signs and talk about the ways animals cope with cold and snow. We’ll have lunch at the lake which sits beneath Great Northern Mountain, the highest peak in the Flathead Range.

Please bring lunch, water, and adequate clothing to be outdoors for the day. This is a FREE outing that is open to the public. Children with genuine interest are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are required, please bring snowshoes if you have them. MWA has a few pairs to loan out, so if you don’t have a pair, let us know at registration so we can bring a pair for you.

The group will meet at the Columbia Falls Park n Ride at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 206 at 9:30 am on Saturday, January 13. We will carpool from there, and plan to be back at the cars around 2:30 pm or so.

Registration is required for this hike. Please register by contacting hike leader Ellen Horowitz at horowitz@centurytel.net or by calling her at 406-752-2909. More information on this hike and our other winter offerings can be found at wildmontana.org/walks.
