Avalanche Awareness Snowshoe
9:00 AM
Flatiron Mountain, Kootenai National Forest
Avalanche Awareness Snowshoe Description:
Please join Montana Wilderness Association for a pleasant snowshoe to Flatiron Summit, where great views of the Yaak surround. We will focus on honing our avalanche awareness and rescue skills on this trip. Activities include exercises in safe travel decision making, snowpack investigations and layering, and avalanche transceiver orientation. Transceivers will be provided, ski poles are recommended. The hike will be strenuous, at about 5 miles long and with 1500 feet of vertical climbing.

Please bring lunch, water, and adequate clothing to be outdoors for the day. This is a free outing that is open to the public. Children with genuine interest are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are required, please bring snowshoes if you have them. MWA has a few pairs to loan out, so if you don’t have a pair, let us know at registration so we can bring a pair for you.

We will meet outside Libby at the junction of Pipe Creek Rd. and Highway 37 at 9 am to carpool to Flatiron Mountain together. We will plan to arrive back at the cars around 3 pm.

Registration is required for this event. Please sign up by contacting Jon Jeresek at jjeresek@gmail.com or at 406-293-8246. You can find more information about this hike and other Winter Offerings at wildmontana.org/walks.
