Film Club screens comedy Groundhog Day, FREE! Description:
Bill Murray plays cold - fronted weatherman Phil Connors in this hilarious cult classic from director and frequent Murray collaborator Harold Ramis. In the film, Phil dreads his occupational annual pilgrimage to a small Pennsylvania town to cover Groundhog Day, feeling it is beneath him. So it is perhaps ironic that Phil gets stuck in an endless time loop, re-living February 2nd in Punxsutawney over and over again, with no idea how to make it stop. The only silver lining is that the repetition gives Phil plenty of time to win the heart of his producer Rita (Andie MacDowell).

The concept and driving force behind the film evolved constantly during the pre-production planning stage. Most significantly, to take full advantage of Murray's comedic talents, it morphed from a pessimistic black comedy to the more lighthearted film we all enjoy today. Other abandoned ideas include a voice-over narration from Phil Connors himself; Rita revealing that she too has been stuck inside of a timeloop; and, most bizarrely of all, Conners breaking up with a girlfriend before the timeloop begins, only to have her get revenge every day thereafter, each time in a different manner.

There is no charge for the film, and donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of showing the films. The movie and popcorn are free; wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs, or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
