5:00 PM
Hockaday Museum of Art
Description:
The Hockaday Museum of Art brings Mardi Gras to Kalispell on Saturday, February 9, 5:00-9:00 PM, just ahead of the New Orleans celebration the following Tuesday. Mardi Gras in Montana will offer a pleasing variety of entertainment for the entire family. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Beads will be handed out at the front door while supplies last. Southern-themed music will give the event a festive mood.

Original one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras art masks created by local artists will be sold via silent auctions. Lending their unique talents this year are Edie Carhart (mixed media), Celinda English (mixed media), Janet Fischer (bronze, copper, sterling silver), Jennifer Li (mixed media), Brian Moore (cast glass), Lee Proctor (cast glass), David Scott Smith (clay), and Julie Wulf (dye on paper mache). The art masks will be on display and available for bidding at the Museum until the auctions end at 8:30 PM on the night of the event.

A Mardi Gras-themed costume contest begins at 5:00 PM. Prizes for best dressed include a $100 cash first prize, a $40 Hockaday membership for second place, and a collection of John Fery Glacier National Park Centennial exhibit memorabilia for third. Judges will announce the winners at 7:00 PM.

Guests of all ages are invited to join a mask making project downstairs in the classroom that begins at 5:00 PM. Materials will be provided, and the project will continue as long as supplies last. Children under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

Kathleen Francis from Fancy Face Designs will be offering face painting for youth and adults at $8 each. For added bling, jewels and glitter can be added to any of her colorful original designs for $2 more.

Southern food selections created by Chef Zachary Bernheim of North Bay Grille. A variety of adult beverages, including a Montana Hurricane, will be made with international award-winning spirits Whistling Andy Distillery from Bigfork. Food items and adult beverages will be available for purchase for $5 each. Guests who purchase a one-year membership to the Hockaday during the event will be given a free ticket they may use for food or drink.

There will also be a split the pot raffle with the winning ticket drawn at 8:30 PM.

Proceeds from all sales will benefit the Hockaday’s programs. Mardi Gras in Montana is sponsored by North Bay Grille, Whistling Andy’s Distillery and Kalispell Toyota.
