FVCC OFFERS FREE PRESENTATION ON IRAN

Flathead Valley Community College’s Multicultural Affairs Office will welcome Sam and Ruth Neff, co-founders of Neighbors East and West, who will present “Opening our Eyes to Iran” for the community February 19.

The couple will describe highlights of their trips to Iran in 2008 and 2009 which included visits to the major cities of Tehran, Esfahan, Qom and Shiraz, and a short stay in the village of Abyaneh. The presentation will include their personal discoveries of a country with a long history, filled with architectural and natural beauty. The Neffs explored ancient buildings and monuments and also were able to interact with many Iranians in a spirit of friendship and mutual interest

Sam is a retired physics professor, and Ruth is a nursing Instructor. In the mid-1980s, they helped found Neighbors East and West, an organization which promotes grassroots contact between Americans and citizens of countries that are considered adversaries. In the course of the past 30 years, the Neffs have organized or participated in travel programs to the Soviet Union, Cuba, Yugoslavia, Iran, and most recently, Palestine and Israel. Descriptions of their recent trips can be found on the website,www.neighborseastandwest.org.

Free and open to the public, the lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in room 144 inside the Arts and Technology Building on the college campus. For more information, contact Mick Stemborski at 756-3945 or at mstembor@fvcc.edu.
