Winter Survival Skills Workshop

Ravenwood Outdoor Learning Center
Winter Survival Skills Workshop Description:
Join Ravenwood Outdoor Learning Center and Montana Wilderness Association for a full day of basic winter and wilderness survival skills, Saturday, February 24, from 9am to 3pm. The class will take place on F.H. Stoltze Land and Lumber Co. property between Columbia Falls and Whitefish, MT. Participants will meet at the Blue Moon parking lot at 9am at the junction of Highways 2/40.

We'll cover the basics of winter survival--shelter, signalling, fire, water, food--and explore specific skills in depth according to the interests of our participants. We'll be working with and around fire so wool clothing and good winter footwear is ideal. There are teepee shelters but no bathrooms at the site so be prepared for wilderness conditions and any weather!

Please bring lunch, water, and adequate clothing to be outdoors for the day. This is a FREE outing that is open to the public. Children with genuine interest are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are required, please bring snowshoes if you have them. MWA has a few pairs to loan out, so if you don’t have a pair, let us know at registration so we can bring a pair for you.

Registration is required for this activity. Please register by contacting Brett Holmquist: brett@ravenwoodolc.org, 406 260 8620. More information on this hike and MWA's other winter offerings can be found at wildmontana.org/walks.
