April 4 | The Double Edge of Snow Avalanches - A Hazard and an Ecological Driver
Presenter: Erich Peitzsch, Physical Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in Glacier National Park
Snow avalanches are both a hazard and an important ecological disturbance across the world. Northwest Montana is an ideal natural laboratory for studying snow avalanches from both perspectives. Erich Peitzsch will present his group's research on avalanche ecology and wet snow avalanches. He will also discuss their collaboration with the Flathead Avalanche Center and avalanche hazard forecasting.
Flathead Lakers, FLBS - Flathead Lake Biological Station, The University of Montana, and Flathead Lake Brewing Co. present Science on Tap-Flathead, to begin a conversation with our community, to present science in a fun and approachable way, and to communicate and share together our love and respect for this incredible place we live.
From 5 to 8pm the day of Science on Tap, $1.00 of every pint sold will be donated to The Flathead Lake Biological Station & The Flathead Lakers.
Presentations start at 6pm.
