Gateway-To-Glacier-Trail Spring Fund Raiser Pig Roast
6:00 PM

Description:
Gateway-To-Glacier-Trail Spring Fund Raiser – Pig Roast, featuring Live Music by the Belton Blues Band

The Belton Blues Band will perform at the Stonefly Lounge on Highway 2 in Coram on Saturday, April 14, 2012 for the Gateway-to-Glacier-Trail’s spring fund raiser.  The evening will feature a pig roast by Piggy Back BBQ of Whitefish, a silent auction, raffle and door prizes and, of course, great music.  The Belton Blues Band, as the name suggests, is firmly anchored in the blues, but their repertoire includes a generous dose of rock and roll, country and even surf music.  Currently a five-piece band, they’ve played venues with as few as 3 and as many as 6 members.  All the members have ties to “Belton” the railroad station name for West Glacier.  Founding members, Fred Vanhorn (lead guitar and vocals), Dan Fagre (bass) and Lanny Ludig (drums and vocals), have a long history in the area.  Fred retired from a long career with the National Park Service after serving his last 14 years as Fire Management Officer at Glacier National Park.  Dan currently studies climate change impacts at Glacier for the USGS, and Lanny manages backcountry chalets in Glacier.  More recent additions to the band also have ties to “Belton.”  Rhythm guitarist Gary Ludwig leads a Glacier Park Exotic Pest Management Team.  Harmonica player, Leo Govenettio climbs mountains and recreates in the park while enjoying free time from construction and truck-driving work.

Since all the members are active outdoor recreationists, the mission of the Gateway-to-Glacier Trail organization was immediately appealing.  “We all enjoy bicycling, and would love to see a safe route along Highway 2,” said guitarist Ludwig.   “When the idel for this fund-raising event was presented to use, we said “sign us up!””  The Gateway-to-Glacier Trail mission is, of course, building a separated, paved bike and pedestrian path along Highway 2 connecting Coram (at Seville Lane) to West Glacier (under the BNSF Railway overpass).  A dedicated group of local residents from West Glacier to Columbia Falls has been busy applying for grant funding, requesting donations from the community and planning other events.  Co-owners of the Stonefly Lounge, Seth and Stacey Schnebel, have been on the steering committee since its inception.  Now registered as an IRS 501( c)(3) non-profit organization, all donations to the Gateway-to-Glacier Trail are tax-deductible.

In addition to a great pig roast and awesome music, the April 14 fund raiser will feature “Pint Nite” by Fat Tire beer.  A $5 entry fee will get you a pint of Fat Tire in a souvenir glass, with refills available for $3.  Silent auction items, raffle and door prizes have been generously donated by the Montana House, Three Forks Grille, Norms News, The Shops at Station 8, Hungry Horse Liquors, Glacier Cyclery, Hammer Nutrition, the White Room and other local businesses.  In addition, private individuals have donated items to the cause, including hand-made cards, an REI gift card, books, and a Cloudveil soft-shell jacket.  More donations are arriving every day. The steering committee would like to thank all those who’ve supported this event so far, and all those who join us on April 14.  For more information about the event or about donating, please see the Gateway-to-Glacier Trail website at www.gatewaytoglaciertrail.com.  They can also be found on Facebook.
