Classic Western "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"
7:00 PM
The Museum at Central School
Classic Western Description:
Director John Huston cast Humphry Bogart, Tim Holt, and his own father Walter Huston in this adaptation of the novel of the same name. A film that examines how gold leads to greed, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre was one of the first Hollywood productions to be shot on location outside the United States, and for that reason is now a part of the National Film Registry

John Huston was determined to make The Treasure of the Sierra Madre as his follow up to The Maltese Falcon, but there were many times the project was close to being scrapped for good. Huston’s original script was rejected twice by Warner Brothers for being too dark. Then Huston enlisted to fight in World War Two, leaving the project stranded. While Huston was away, the studio tried to make numerous changes to the script and attach other directors to the project, but his loyal producer Henry Blanke allegedly commissioned bad rewrites to further stall production, giving Huston the opportunity to return.

There is no charge for the film, and donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of showing the films. The movie and popcorn are free; wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs, or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
