Description:
AUGUST 5TH - 29TH, 2026 EXHIBIT DATES. WHITEFISH ARTIST SANDY BRIDGEWATER WILL BE AT PHILLIPS GALLERY WITH HER SOLO EXHIBITION TITLED, “THE MOUNTAIN VIEW”.

Whitefish artist Sandy Bridgewater will be at Phillips Gallery for the month of August with her solo exhibition titled, “The Mountain View”. This new collection of contemporary and traditional landscape paintings depicts local scenes from Glacier National Park and surrounding areas in the stunning palette the artist is known for. Bridgewater’s technique prioritizes the effects of light, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere typical of the Luminism style. The public is invited to meet the artist on Friday, August 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the gallery. An artist talk is planned during the reception at 5:30 pm.

Bridgewater was a born creative she says with the natural world being her constant teacher via plein air painting adventures. She has studied art at the Art Institute of Boston, and the Breckenridge Colorado Arts District. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artist, National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society, NorthWest Arts Association, Boulder Arts Association, Glacier Art Museum and Plein Aire Painters of the Flathead. Her work has been published in several magazines including Western Art and Architecture, Western Art Collector, Art of the West, and American Art Collector to list just a few.

“With a focus on the light and compelling compositions. Thick textured oil paintings on canvas created using brush and palette knife to add interest and depth. Painted from direct observation en Plein Air, as well as in studio using reference photos taken from the trail. Bright colorful landscapes intending to inspire positivity, and an appreciation of the awe and tranquility that can be found in nature.” Bridgewater shares with us in describing this body of work she has planned for this exhibition. “Scenes from the backcountry, some places hard to get to, or views easily missed if you didn’t take a second to slow down.”

Bridgewater’s intimate perspective captures the emotions, light, and magic found in a single frame of time; she romanticizes untouched wilderness by highlighting wild details in the scene before her. Her work balances realism with expressive, visible brushwork utilizing rich, earthy forest tones of mossy greens and deep evergreens, warm earth brown tones juxtaposing the brilliant light cascading throughout her work.
