Flathead Audubon Society General Meeting
7:00 PM
United Way Building
Description:
Join us at our general meeting where Bo Crees will present about Surveying for nesting Black Swifts in Montana! Boaz (Bo) Crees has been interested in the natural world since early childhood. He discovered the wonders of birds and birding in his early 20’s and was hired as a biological technician on his first bird research project in 2005, while studying wildlife biology at the University of Montana. Bo has been involved in many field research projects over the past 19 years, and has studied birds in Mexico, Canada, and all but two western U.S. states. Bo currently lives in Helena and is an Avian Specialist for Montana Audubon and the Montana Natural Heritage Program. In his presentation Bo will briefly discuss the unique life history of the Black Swift and the chronology and outcomes of past surveys in Western Montana, and then elaborate on results and adventures from the 2024 “swifting” season. This will include explanation of survey protocols, sharing details about specific survey sites and survey results, as well as plenty of anecdotes highlighting the joys and challenges of searching for these elusive, wonderful birds in remote, hard-to-access parts of Montana.
