FVCC Hosts Informational Session on Summer Study-Abroad Programs
Flathead Valley Community College will host an informational session on January 18 to share details about its upcoming study-abroad programs in Costa Rica and Germany. FVCC International Student Services Director Gerda Reeb will discuss the application/selection process, eligibility requirements, program costs, curriculum, itinerary and more. Free and open to the public, the informational session will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in room 140 of Blake Hall on the FVCC campus.
From May 13-25, FVCC students and faculty will study tropical flora in Costa Rica as part of a three-credit course. The group will visit unique ecological zones, including volcanoes, the cloud forest area of Las Vueltas and the rain forest region of the Osa Peninsula. Participants will be immersed in pristine jungle settings and reside in rustic forest lodges and biological research station dormitories. FVCC's Botany Professor Mirabai McCarthy will lead students into primary and secondary tropical forests in one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world. The approximate cost of the program is $3,670, plus tuition and fees for three FVCC credits.
From July 29 to August 23, FVCC students and faculty will travel to Wrzburg, Germany, where they will study German language, culture and sociology at the Julius Maximilian University of Wrzburg. A five-credit elementary German class will begin on the FVCC campus on July 10 and continue upon the group's arrival in Germany. FVCC's Sociology Professor Ami Mezahav will travel with the group and teach a three-credit sociology course. A visit to Berlin is included in the trip. No prior knowledge of German is necessary to participate in the program. The approximate cost of the program is $4,450, plus tuition and fees for eight FVCC credits.
Each program is limited to 14 students. Eligible students must be at least 18 years old with a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher. Those interested in going need to complete an application and submit a $1,000 deposit by February 1. The deposit is 100 percent refundable until March 1. The balance due must be paid by April 1. Scholarships and financial aid are available.
