Art :: Art Show
Opening Reception for A Timeless Legacy
5:00 PM
Hockaday Museum of Art
Description:
The Hockaday Museum of Art announces A Timeless Legacy - Women Artists of Glacier National Park, an exhibition that recognizes the early bold, spirited women who overcame the challenges of society, weather and geography to paint in Glacier National Park. The works of contemporary women artists continuing this legacy will be displayed alongside paintings of their predecessors, demonstrating the timeless tradition of painting the Park. A Timeless Legacy - Women Artists of Glacier National Park will be on display May 28 through July 18, 2015.

While there are many male artists who gained notoriety and made their livelihood off commissions and the sale of their paintings of the Park, the women who came have largely remained unrecognized. The purpose of A Timeless Legacy is to honor the women artists of Glacier National Park. The show features the work of Nellie Knopf, Leah Dewey Lebo, Kathryn Leighton, Elizabeth Lochrie, Lucille Van Slyck, Elsa Jemne and Merle Olson, as well as the four women artists working today: Carole Cooke, Kathryn Stats, Linda Tippetts and Rachel Warner. The exhibit will feature works on loan from collections located all over the United States.

An accompanying limited edition book and documentary film DVD will be available for purchase in May 2015. Plans for televised broadcast of the documentary film will be released at a later date.

The opening reception for A Timeless Legacy will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and the public is invited to enjoy free admission to the event. Throughout the exhibit, visitors may learn more about the exhibition by taking one of the docent-guided tours held Thursdays at 10:30 AM and Saturdays at 1:00 PM (included with guest admission). The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
