Performing in the Hot Club tradition of Django Reinhardt, Hot Club of San Francisco presents Cinema Vivant, a magical evening of vintage silent films accompanied by live gypsy jazz. As images flicker to life, HCSF musicians play their blend of Spanish guitar, jazz rhythms, and fast swing, matching every movement on the screen with characteristic virtuosity, passion, and humor. HCSF is led by the group's superb lead guitarist, Paul Mehling, and features the amazing violin of Grammy Award-winning Evan Price, the velvet vocals of Isabelle Fontaine, and a swinging rhythm section. Reviving the gypsy caravans of the past, HCSF, whose sound has been called "intricate, scorching and often brilliant" by Acoustic Guitar, brings life to some of the earliest stop-action animated films that still exist: There It Is(1928), The Cameraman's Revenge (1912), and The Mascot (1933).
