A History of Wildfire in the Flathead
6:00 PM
Flathead Valley Community College
A History of Wildfire in the Flathead Description:
Wildfire has always been part of the stunning Montana landscape. Join FireSafe Flathead as we explore the history of wildfire in the Flathead. Rick Trembath, retired forester and firefighter with the Flathead National Forest and DNRC, along with Tony Harwood of the Confederated & Salish Kootenai Tribes, will share a collection of photos and video to tell the history of fire in the Flathead.

This is the first in a 4-part lecture series, "Wildfire in Western Montana". For the next few Thursday evenings we will discuss:

March 1 - How wildfires are suppressed and prescribed fire is used, basic principles of fire behavior and what effects fire may have on local flora and fauna.

March 8 - A panel discussion with land managers in the Flathead area, including: Montana DNRC, Flathead National Forest, Flathead County, Stoltze Lumber, and Glacier National Park.

March 15 - Home & Landowners Living with Wildfire in NW Montana: What we can do to protect what we love: our family, home, property, and community.
